What is a ventilated facade?
A ventilated façade, otherwise known as “Rainscreen Cladding” or “Dry Cladding”, is a dry-installed exterior building envelope system. It is a relatively new method of cladding where a cavity exists between the outer facade material and the structural wall behind it.
A ventilated facade gives the building a space between its perimeter wall and the exterior cladding, which allows the facade to breathe.
Why should you choose a ventilated facade?
A ventilated facade in natural stone protects the building structure from the elements while offering excellent thermal insulation, reducing the building’s energy footprint. The space between its perimeter wall and the exterior cladding reduces indoor temperatures by cleverly regulating the air using the ‘chimney effect’. In winter, on the other hand, it keeps the heat in and combats humidity.
Due to its thickness, a ventilated facade is also a natural sound insulator.
